Holiday sales down for Trans World
Trans World Entertainment Corporation saw its 2013 holiday sales drop following a nearly year-long drop in sales.
The Albany-based retailer reported Thursday that in the five weeks leading up to Jan. 4, 2014, sales dropped 5.4 percent compared to the same period one year earlier. If you factor in the month of November, holiday sales dropped 6 percent.
Total sales in this nine-week period were $115 million compared to $128 million a year earlier. Trans World did, however, operate about 5 percent fewer stores during this period.
Most of 2013 saw a drop in sales for the retailer of entertainment products. In the 11 months leading up to Jan. 4, total sales dropped 12.5 percent to $370 million compared to $423 million during the same period a year earlier. The company operated about 6 percent fewer stores in this period, though.
Trans World operates more than 350 F.Y.E. stores nationwide.
