High schools: Queensbury boys' soccer team turns back Scotia
Queensbury’s John Meacham played Jim Doty in on the left side, and Doty’s left-footer bounced once before being headed into the net by Alliston McFarlane with 15 minutes to play Friday as the Spartans defeated the Scotia-Glenville boys’ soccer team, 2-1, in a Foothills Council game.
The Tartans (4-2 Foothills) led, 1-0, at the half on Ian Flaherty’s tally. The Spartans (5-1 Foothills, 7-1 overall) drew even 15 minutes into the second half when Chris Goodemote sent a through ball for Cole Crotty, who beat a defender and sent the ball past keeper Adam Ashcroft. Ashcroft finished with six saves, and Tyler Redmond had two for Queensbury.
Niskayuna beat Averill Park, 5-0, in the Suburban Council with goals from Bobby Chapman, Luke Faranda, Adam Downey, Christian Koudal and Hakeem Rabiu.
Nick Jonas got his head on the end of a Dan Reidell cross about halfway through the second half to provide the only goal in Northville’s 1-0 Western Athletic Conference victory over Middleburgh. For the Falcons (4-0-2, 4-0-2), Tim Monette made five saves for the shutout. Austin Smith had five stops for Middleburgh (2-3-0 WAC).
Saratoga Central Catholic got a pair of goals from both Liam Rice and Nicholas Cavotta in a 5-3 win over Sharon Springs. JR Hmura had the other goal, and Ryan Czarnecki had three assists. Sharon Springs got goals from Dustin Tripp, Jeff Perrotti and Tyler Eianchini, with Eianchini also handing out an assist.
Berne-Knox-Westerlo came back from a 1-0 deficit to beat Fort Plain in overtime, 2-1, with goals from Nick Nagengast and Lukus Becker, Becker’s coming 5:37 into overtime. William Logan scored for the Hilltoppers.
Richie Martino scored in the 95th minute to give Schoharie a 3-2 overtime win over Mayfield. Will Vedder and Morgan Horry scored in regulation, with Horry’s tally tying the game in the 77th minute. Justin Montione made four saves in the win.
Mayfield got a goal from James Winsman and a goal and an assist from Todd Briggs. Lucas VanNostrand made six saves.
Seth Scarano scored three times and assisted on three goals to lead Ichabod Crane past Albany Academy, 7-2, in the Colonial Council. Heriberto Gomez had two goals and an assist, and both Diego Lezama and Alex Niemann had a goal and an assist.
Drew Phillips scored three goals to help Hoosick Falls to a 7-0 Wasaren League win over Cambridge. Max Haar added a goal and three assists.
Hoosic Valley and Stillwater played to a scoreless draw, with Travis Rose making five saves for Stillwater (3-0-1, 3-0-1) and Jared Morello stopping five shots for Hoosic Valley (3-0-1, 5-0-1).
Schuylerville topped Tamarac,
4-1, with Patrick Castle collecting a hat trick. Jose Mendoza also scored for the Horses, and Tamarac’s goal came from Adam Kinner.
Billy Matin scored twice for Waterford-Halfmoon (4-0, 5-2) in a 7-0 Central Hudson Valley League win over Heatly. Noah Maziejka had three assists, and Kyle Elliott set up a pair of goals. Anthony Burris made seven saves for the shutout. Heatly (0-4, 0-4) got seven saves from Patrick Humphrey.
Albany won a non-leaguer with Newburgh Free Academy, 2-0, with goals from Liam Hill and Emmanuel Ishiwe. Lucas Phayre-Gonzalez made six saves for the shutout. NFA got four saves from David Cordero.
In another non-leaguer, Greenwich overcame a 2-0 deficit to beat Cohoes, 3-2, with goals from Elliot Hansen, Jon Askew and Tyler Matson. Chris Robertson made six saves for the win, and Cohoes got seven saves from Stephen Galarneau.
Silver Warriors win
Niskayuna’s Meghan Doyle had a goal and an assist in a 4-0 Suburban Council win over Averill Park, and Kristen Hartlage made three saves for the shutout. Maddie Karafanda, Marika Contompasis and Hannah Munro also scored.
Averill Park got nine saves from Kelly Donnelly and one from Alexis Sanchez.
Cassidy Driscoll scored twice for Saratoga Springs in a 4-2 win over Bethlehem, and Ellery Bianco had a goal and two assists. Delaney Dyer also scored in the win, and Melissa Mascari made seven saves.
Holly Moore and Autumn Fetterolf scored for Bethlehem, and Miranda Manziano had 11 saves.
Scotia-Glenville (5-1, 6-1) got goals from 10 players in an 11-0 Foothills Council win over Hudson Falls, led by Dom Puglisi with two. Carina Moran made two saves for the shutout. Other Tartan goals came from Maddy Carroll, Nicole Polsinelli, Alyssa Williams, Ginny Dielowski, Richelle Cremo, Lisa Smith, Abby O’Connor, Gracie Mailey and Kayleigh Denney.
Queensbury remained unbeaten in the league with a 3-0 win over South Glens Falls. Sarah O’Brien made five saves in the win, and Brittany LaPlant scored all three goals for the Spartans (6-0 Foothills). Elyse Green made 11 saves for the Bulldogs (2-3-1 Foothills).
Gloversville’s Chanel Thomas and Madison Fancher both had hat tricks in an 8-3 win over Glens Falls, and Thomas added an assist. Caroline Bakyta had a goal and two assists in the win, and Emily Washburn made five saves.
Glens Falls got goals from Lucy Tougas, Demi Vanderheyden and Skylar Girard.
Katie Herba scored three goals and assisted on one as Broadalbin-Perth beat Johnstown, 4-3. Mackenzie Young made seven saves in the win.
Johnstown got two goals from Morganne Dick, while Megan Anagnostopoulus had a goal and two assists, and Briana Espositi made 21 saves.
Canajoharie’s Jenelle Dillenbeck scored twice as the Cougars came away with a 4-2 Western Athletic Conference win over Duanesburg. Hannah Bowerman added a goal and an assist, Morgan Koelbl tallied once, and Lauren Balfe made six saves. The Eagles got a goal apiece from Kayla Smalls and Maeve McKeeby, with Nicole Cassale making 13 stops.
Lindsey Wadsworth had three goals and an assist for 4-3-0 Northville in a 7-0 win over Fort Plain. Taylor Fancher and Veronica Arceri both scored twice.
Sarah Martin’s goal, assisted by Stephanie Mason, gave Berne-Knox-Westerlo a 1-0 win over Sharon Springs. Julianna Martin had five saves for BKW, and Kara VanArsdale made 16 saves for
Schoharie’s Seana Cleveland had two goals and an assist in a 4-0 win over Mayfield. Desiree Palmatier and Carrie Krohn also scored for Schoharie (3-0, 5-0), and Sydney Stanley made four saves. Maria Messina had nine saves for Mayfield (0-4, 0-5).
Val Taylor factored into every goal for Albany Academy in a 3-2 Colonial Council win over Ichabod Crane. She scored twice and assisted on Talia Rockmore’s score. Rockmore also had an assist, and Laurel Downey made seven saves for Academy (4-1, 4-1).
Ichabod Crane (6-1, 6-1) got two goals from Jenn VanAlphen, and Mariela Jacome made six saves.
Cairo-Durham (2-1-1) was outshot, 9-4, but Alany Gomez made nine saves and Gigi DeCamp scored a first-half goal as the Mustangs beat Maple Hill, 1-0. Anna Pulver made three saves for Maple Hill (2-2).
LADY BILLS ROLL
Balanced Johnstown improved to 6-0 in the Foothills Council and 7-1 overall with a 25-6, 25-15, 25-16 win over South Glens Falls.
Annie Stock, Bri O’Rourke, Jerica Holland and Alyssa Nellis combined for 13 kills for the Lady Bills.
Senior Hannah Berning had 20 service points with six kills, sophomore Danielle Gagnon had 20 service points and three kills and Morgan Adams added 30 assists for Scotia-Glenville in a 25-13,
23-25, 25-15, 21-25, 25-15 decision over Glens Falls.
Hayley Macken’s all-around effort of 12 service points, 24 assists, four kills and two blocks helped Shenendehowa beat Mohonasen, 25-11, 25-8, 25-8, in a Suburban Council match.
Gabby Agresta had five kills and three blocks, and Taylor Murphy contributed nine service points and six kills for 6-1 Shen.
For 0-7 Mohonasen, Arianna Christou led the way with seven kills and five digs, while Hannah Willey recorded 14 assists and three digs.
In the Big 10, Catholic Central used 12 kills from Jenah Schnellbaecher to beat Amsterdam, 25-20, 25-15, 25-18.
Julie Nichols registered 19 service points and eight kills, and Rebecca Nichols chipped in with 19 assists to lead Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons (4-1, 6-1) to a 25-19, 25-20, 25-14 win over Troy.
Paris Jarrell, Caroline Bouchard and Sarah DelVecchio combined for 14 kills for the Golden Knights. Troy (1-4) was led by Christy Gordon’s three kills.
Schalmont improved to 7-0 with a 3-0 sweep of Holy Names.
The Sabres were led by Emily Hilton’s 19 digs, Savanna Liverio’s 20 assists and Lauren Mahar’s 10 kills. Megan Williams posted nine kills for 2-4 Holy Names.
Fonda-Fultonville (6-1) outlasted Mechanicville, 25-16, 24-26, 25-10, 23-25, 25-16, behind 15 kills from Miranda Nethaway and 16 service points from Abby Oliver.
Paige Phelan’s 11 kills and Alydia Zecca’s 20 assists led the 3-4 Red Raiders.
Haley Irvis was completely dominant at the net with 21 kills and seven blocks as Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk beat Cobleskill-Richmondville, 18-25, 28-26, 22-25, 25-18, 25-5.
Emma Cumm had 14 assists and 14 digs for 6-1 R-C-S. Alaina Thaxter produced 21 service points, including five aces, for the 3-4 Bulldogs.
Eileen Thompson and Libby Bjork combined for 23 service points, and Tori Hargrave and Caroline Bablin totaled 16 kills to spark Voorheesville over Lansingburgh, 25-15, 25-12, 25-19.
Greenville defeated Cairo-Durham, 25-9, 25-11 ,25-11, in the Patroon Conference.
Bethany Mitchell served for 18 points with 5 kills for the Spartans, Jackie Hicks served for 15 points and Emily Fishlinger served for 11.
In a non-league match, Katie Ludder’s nine kills and 15 digs sparked Averill Park over Catholic Central, 25-12, 25-4, 25-11.
Jess Powers chipped in with six kills, and Jackie Kindlon had three kills, 16 digs and eight aces for the 4-3 Warriors.
Austin Nydegger’s 10 kills and Cody Pearce’s 27 assists lifted Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake to a 25-13, 25-16, 25-9 win over Shaker in a Suburban Council match.
Dan Symer added eight kills for the 6-1 Spartans. Jarrod Parower’s six kills topped the 1-4 Blue Bison.
Nick Donato’s 13 kills and 10 blocks, and Javar Burla’s 13 kills powered Colonie over Saratoga Springs, 23-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-19.
Ethan Tollisen chipped in with 14 digs for the 4-3 Garnet Raiders. The 3-4 Blue Streaks were led by Liam Stewart with 14 kills and three blocks, Jake Sewell, with 10 kills and five blocks, and by Gabe Bliss, with 20 assists.
Kevin Cahill, Aaron Carrk and John Sica combined for 18 kills, and Kevin Mahar produced 25 assists in Bethlehem Central’s 25-13, 25-18, 25-10 sweep of Mohonasen.
Josh Miller, Tim Molino and Dan Nicoletta totaled 12 kills in Niskayuna’s 25-17, 25-21, 25-12 decision over Columbia.
Theodore Chiappone and Scott Grable registered 10 and nine kills, respectively, and Reid Hartl contributed 23 assists in Shenendehowa’s 25-16, 25-22, 25-23 win over Guilderland.
Caroline Cady scored on a Nicole daCunha assist with 3:37 left in the second overtime to carry Shenendehowa over Saratoga Springs, 1-0, in a Suburban Council match.
Melissa Nealon made eight saves for the 6-0, 7-0 Plainsmen. Sam Geils stopped 16 shots for the 4-2 Blue Streaks.

Aubrey Kamppila scored the other goal for the Spartans and also had an assist. Elise Zwicklebauer chipped in with two assists, and Brittany Ryan made seven saves for 4-2 BH-BL.
Katie Zilka scored on an assist from Christie Raymond to propel Queensbury over Rutland, 1-0, in another non-league match.
