Bret Michaels, Kansas coming to The Plaza
ALBANY Bret Michaels will be coming to Albany for a free concert as part of the 2013 Summer At The Plaza series, the state Office of General Services announced today.
Michaels, the former lead singer of the band Poison, will perform July 24 at the Empire State Plaza in Albany. Blues Traveler and Kansas are among the other big names taking the stage during the free series of music and community events, which kicks off June 26 and runs through mid-September.

Wednesday, June 26, 5 to 9 p.m.: Brit invasion band The Zombies
Thursday, July 4, 3 to 10 p.m.: July 4th celebration, sponsored by Price Chopper. Rocker Johnny Rivers, most famous for his hit “Secret Agent Man,” headlines a day of music, family fun and fireworks.
Sunday, July 7, 5 to 9 p.m.: GE’s Kids Day, including Sing Along Adventure with Thomas & Friends
Wednesday, July 10, 5 to 9 p.m.: Prog rockers Kansas
Wednesday, July 24, 5 to 9 p.m.: Bret Michaels
Saturday, Aug. 3, noon to 7 p.m.: McDonald’s African American Family Day. Disco/funk band Heatwave (“Boogie Nights,” “Always and Forever”) headlines a day of music, art, dance and family activities.
Wednesday, Aug. 14, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.: New York State Food Festival. Jam band Blues Traveler will headline the music offerings at the festival, which will feature a farmers’ market with cheese, wine and other New York state products.
Wednesday, Aug. 21, 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.: Movie Night. Outdoor screening of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971)
Wednesday, Aug. 28, 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.: Movie Night. Outdoor screening of Madagascar 3; Europe’s Most Wanted (2012)
Saturday, Sept. 7, 2 to 9 p.m.: Soul singer Mayer Hawthorn
Saturday, Sept. 14, 3 to 8 p.m.: Hannaford Hispanic Heritage Celebration. Music, food and family entertainment.
