Saratoga County deputy charged in tire-slashing incident resigns
BALLSTON SPA A long-time member of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department resigned Monday after being charged with a misdemeanor count of criminal mischief for allegedly slashing a woman’s tire in February.
Shawn Nolan, 51, of Ballston Spa, had been suspended without pay from his job as a deputy after being charged Feb. 7 by village police.
During an appearance in Village Court on Monday, Nolan agreed to pay $175 in restitution for slashing the tire on Thompson Street and had his case adjourned in contemplation of dismissal by village Justice Tom Schroeder, said Saratoga County District Attorney James A. Murphy III.
Nolan has also submitted his letter of resignation to Saratoga County Sheriff James Bowen on Monday as part of the court agreement. Nolan had been with the Sheriff’s Department since 1983 and had been a road patrol officer for the past 28 years. His base salary was $66,199 in 2012, according to county payroll records.
