Assault report leads to weapons charges in Troy
TROY An alleged assault reported early Sunday morning has landed a Troy man in jail, charged with multiple offenses including criminal possession of a weapon.
City police said they were called to the 400 block of Fourth Avenue after it was reported that a female was assaulted by two men, one brandishing a handgun.
After receiving descriptions of the men, officers went in search of them. According to police, one suspect, Kamari Shuaib, 21, of 2433 21st Street, Troy, was apprehended after a foot chase.
During the chase, Shuaib reportedly shed his jacket, which police found in the front yard of 869 Sixth Ave.
In the pocket they said they found a fully loaded 9 mm semi-automatic handgun.
Shuaib was charged with second-degree and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree assault and fourth-degree possession of stolen property.
He was sent to Rensselaer County Jail without bail.
According to police, a follow-up investigation revealed that Shuaib and another unidentified person were responsible for an unsuccessful robbery Saturday evening and that the gun had been stolen in a burglary earlier in the month.
