Friday storms cut power to 18,000 National Grid customers
CAPITAL REGION About 18,000 National Grid customers in eastern New York lost power as a result of Friday evening’s storms.
Crews worked throughout the night responding to downed wires, assessing damage and restored power to a vast majority of impacted customers, according to a news release from the utility. By early this afternoon, only about 1,100 customers remained without power but were expected to have it restored later in the evening, depending on additional storms.
“This was a fast-moving but very severe storm that came with extremely high winds and caused extensive damage to our electric system,” said New York state National Grid President Ken Daly. “We remain in close contact with local emergency response teams and local officials as we move from damage assessment to restoration efforts today.”
