Two face drug charges after raid at Amsterdam motel
AMSTERDAM Two people face drug charges after Amsterdam police executed a search warrant this afternoon to culminate a weeklong investigation into alleged drug trafficking out of a motel on the city's East End.
Police said they found 53 envelopes containing heroin, as well as about $1,400 in cash, when they searched Room 7 at the Rock Motel on East Main Street and its two occupants, Isabel Santiago, 33, and Yajaira Rivera, 32. Police said the heroin had a street value of about $1,000.
Police said they received the search warrant as a result of surveillance of the hotel room and surrounding area that observed several people visiting the room or the motel's parking lot for brief periods.
Santiago and Rivera were each charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony. They were to be arraigned in City Court, and police expected them to be sent to the Montgomery County jail.
