Store owner held on 11 felony drug charges
SARATOGA SPRINGS The owner of a small convenience store near Jefferson Terrace was arrested last week on 11 felony drug charges and accused of having cocaine at his store.
William J. Pendelton, 46, of Elk Circle, Ballston Spa, was arrested Thursday. He owns Southside Variety Market on Jefferson Street near the city’s public housing units.
City police narcotics officers and officers from the federal Drug Enforcement Administration stopped Pendelton on Ballston Avenue at 2 p.m. Thursday and found him to be in possession of 2 ounces of cocaine, city police said.
Police then executed a search warrant at Pendelton’s store and found another ounce of cocaine, they alleged. A search of his home yielded drug-related materials and cash, police said.
After his arrest he was sent to Saratoga County Jail with no bail set.
Police said Pendelton is a four-time convicted felon in New York state and is a convicted felon at the federal level as well.
He is charged with three counts of second-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, one count of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and seven counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
