ValleyCats turn back Tigers
TROY The Tri-City ValleyCats built a 6-1 lead after three innings and rode the pitching of Michael Feliz and Andrew Thurman to beat Connecticut, 6-2, at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Sunday.
Dan Gulbransen hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning for a 2-0 lead.
Connecticut got a run back in the top of the third when Austin Green led off with a homer, his first of the season, off Feliz.
Tri-City’s Anthony Kemp led off the third with a walk and scored on Conrad Gregor’s single. Gulbransen walked, and another walk to Ronnie Mitchell loaded the bases, setting up Jake Rodriguez, who hit a two-run single.
After another walk loaded the bases again, Logan Ehlers threw a wild pitch that scored Mitchell for a 6-1 lead.
Feliz gave up just three hits in six innings, striking out six with no walks, and Thurman also had six strikeouts in the last three innings.
