New Year's fight in Schenectady leads to 3 arrests
SCHENECTADY Three people are facing multiple charges in connection with a large fight early New Year’s Day.
The incident happened at around 3 a.m. outside Orchid’s Jamaican-American Restaurant at 1113 State St.
Dihnon Boyd, 18, of 46 Kelton Ave., Apartment 2, allegedly started a physical fight with other patrons while standing in the exit door of the restaurant. A police officer told him several times to stop and leave the building, but he refused. He continued to fight with patrons while officers were trying to clear everyone out of the establishment, according to papers filed in court.
When an officer attempted to arrest him, he ran and hid under the porch of a nearby backyard.
Boyd was charged with second-degree riot, a felony; misdemeanor obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest; and disorderly conduct, a violation.
Facing the same charges as Boyd in the fight was 21-year-old Tyshawn D. Harris of 850 Emmett St.
During that same incident, 24-year-old Antoine J. Smith of 1675 Avenue B. allegedly made verbal threats at officers while standing in front of Auto Zone at the corner of State and McClellan streets. When officers attempted to arrest him, he led them on a brief chase and fought with them. One of the officers had swelling and bruising on his left hand, according to papers filed in court.
Smith was charged with second-degree assault, a felony, as well as obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest, misdemeanors.
