High schools: Swingruber scores twice in win
Sophomore Trey Swingruber scored a pair of goals, and junior goalie Austin Clark made 42 saves to lift Burnt Hills/Ballston Spa to a 6-3 victory over Niskayuna/
Schenectady in a Capital District High School Hockey League game Saturday night at the Schen-ectady County Recreational Facility.
Burnt Hills/Ballston Spa was outshot, 35-19, in the first two periods, but scored two goals in the third period to thwart the Mohawks.
Sophomore forward Ian Speck scored just 14 seconds after the first puck dropped to give Burnt Hills a 1-0 lead, but Niskayuna/Schenectady knotted the score just before the period ended when Jake Miller tallied on a five-on-three power play.
Swingruber’s first goal came on a two-on-one rush, and his wrister put Burnt Hills on top,
2-1, but the Mohawks responded 38 seconds later when Joshua Kim connected.
With Mohawks’ leading scorer Lucas Maloney in the penalty box, Burnt Hills went ahead, 3-2, on a goal by Nick Hart. Burnt Hills padded its lead to 4-2 on Nick Van Lieuw’s breakaway goal.
Maloney then scored his seventh goal of the year, a short-handed tally, to pull the Mohawks within a goal at 4-3.
Burnt Hills clinched the game in the final period with goals by Swingruber and Brady Campbell.
Burnt Hills improved to 5-2 in the league and 5-3-1 overall.
The 1-4, 1-7-1 Mohawks got 22 saves from Spencer Moran.
John Bassett’s three goals and two assists led Christian Brothers Academy in a 10-1 win over Guilderland/Mohonasen at Union College’s Messa Rink.
Austin Kopp added a pair of goals, while Sean Connolly and Chase Crawford both had a goal and an assist.
Other Brothers goals came from Dakota Naylor, Nick Makarowsky and Zach Swanteck.
Kyle Stockman made eight saves while splitting time in goal with David Lazzaro, who made six stops. Tyler Phillips scored the lone goal for Guilderland/Mohonasen.
Austin McCrum made 15 saves in the loss.

Shannon stops 26
Zoe Shannon stopped 26 of the 27 shots she faced, including all 10 in the third period, to make Albany Academy’s two goals stand up in a 2-1 win over Massena in the Upstate New York Girls’ League.
Marielle McHale got Albany Academy on the board in the first period at America North Arena in Plattsburgh, but Massena tied it up, 1-1, in the second period on Katie MacCuaig’s tally.
Madisen Hetman got the eventual game-winner later in the second period, assisted by Maura Mulligan.
