In the Military: VA car show will honor veterans, raise funds
ALBANY Muscle cars, rat rods, trucks and motorcycles will pack the VA Hospital lot Saturday as part of the 3rd annual “Honor Our Vets” car show.
The show honors all armed forces veterans by raising money for the VA Volunteer Services Department and its rehabilitation services. Presented by capitalcarshows.com, the Vietnam Veterans of America, Adirondack Chapter 79 and the Capital District Chapter 8, this year’s car show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 11 Holland Ave. with plenty of refreshments, giveaways and music.
The show has raised more than $15,500 in the last two years, said show organizer Bill Schroeder.
“It was used to provide televisions, toiletries, clothing and countless other items and services to assist our veterans, who shared a part of their life for our freedoms,” he said.
The show will open with a flag ceremony featuring honor guard representatives from various veterans organizations, including the Scotia 109th Airlift Wing and the Albany Police Pipe Band.
The VA site can accommodate more than 450 show vehicles. Two dragsters from Lebanon Valley Auto Racing and the Patriot Guard Riders will be at the show.
Other highlights of the weekend event include a cash drawing, bonus prize giveaways, trivia awards and a dragster photo shoot.
Participants will vote for the top 25 cars, with entrants vying for the Best in Show trophy. Other awards include the People’s Choice, Ladies and Kids picks, Best Paint, Best Under Hood, Best Motorcycle, and more.
Anyone interested in entering a show car can find more information at www.HonorOurVetsCarShow.com. An entry fee is $10.
