CLIFTON PARK – A Ballston Lake man spray-painted a racial epithet on a Black man’s car and how faces a hate crime charge, Saratoga County Sheriff’s officials said.

Thomas J. Hunt, 31, of Gretel Terrace, was charged with one count of second-degree criminal mischief as a hate crime, a felony, officials said.

The incident happened Tuesday at a business in the Northway 10 Industrial Park, 107 Pierce Road, Clifton Park, officials said.

Deputies were called there for the reported spray-painting of an employee’s vehicle, officials said.

The investigation then led to Hunt and he was arrested, officials said.

“We won’t tolerate the spread of hate in Saratoga County,” Saratoga County Sheriff Michael Zurlo said in a statement. “We will investigate any reported hate crime and hold wrong doers accountable for their bad acts.”

Hunt was arraigned and released to appear in court later.
