Troopers: Lake George man drove impaired, illegally possessed AR-15 in Watervliet

WATERVLIET –  A Lake George man drove impaired and illegally possessed an AR-15 rifle Saturday in Watervliet, state police said.

Schuyler T. woodard, 38, was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and two other felony weapons counts, along with misdemeanor counts of possession of a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle, driving while ability impaired by drugs and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Woodard was stopped just after 10 a.m. Saturday for a traffic violation on Interstate 787, state police said. The trooper spoke with him and then noticed a rifle case in the back seat. Further investigation showed the weapon to be a loaded, non-compliant and unregistered AR-15 rifle, state police said.

The trooper also found Woodard in possession of a quantity of Xanax and impaired by drugs, state police said.

Woodard was arraigned and ordered held. He is due back in court later, state police said.
