​The UAlbany football program was ranked No. 24 in the HERO Sports FCS Preseason Top 25 poll released Wednesday.

UAlbany finished 9-5 last season, in which the Great Danes advanced for the first time to the second round of the FCS postseason.

Head coach Greg Gattuso’s team was one of five CAA squads ranked in the poll. Defending conference champion James Madison was ranked No. 5, Villanova was ranked No. 8, Delaware was ranked No. 15 and New Hampshire was ranked No. 17.

North Dakota State, which defeated James Madison in the 2020 national championship game, was ranked No. 1 in the poll.
