Sophie Phillips of Cambridge has been named the Class C Player of the Year for girls’ basketball, while five other Section II standouts earned first-team all-state recognition by the New York State Sportswriters Association on Tuesday.
Phillips, a junior, led Cambridge to its third straight Section II Class C championships this season and anchored the Indians’ run to the state title in 2019.
All-state first-team laurels went to Dolly Cairns of Saratoga Springs in Class AA, Kelsey Wood of Averill Park in Class A, Avery Mills of Mekeel Christian Academy in Class B, Lilly Phillips of Cambridge in Class C, and Gaby Thomas of Fort Edward in Class C.
All-state second-team honors went to Meghan Huerter of Shenendehowa in Class AA.
Also selected in Class AA was Olivia Olsen of Niskayuna (third team), Simone Walker of Shenendehowa (seventh), Valencia Fontenelle-Posson of Guilderland (seventh), Ahniysha Jackson of Albany (seventh), Natasha Chudy of Saratoga (11th), Sareena DiCerbo of Colonie (15th) and Rylee Carpenter of Shenendehowa (15th).
Also selected in Class A was Hailey Ballard of Queensbury (fifth), Grace Field of Holy Names (seventh), Anna Jankovic of Averill Park (eighth), Jenalyse Alarcon of Troy (eighth), Andie Gannon of Amsterdam (10th), Amelia Wood of Averill Park (12th), Antonia May of Amsterdam (13th) , Hope Sullivan of Queensbury (13th) and Emma Shields of Emma Willard (15th).
Payton Graber of Schalmont (third) was among the Class B selections, as well as Charli Goverski of Mechanicville (fourth), Abby Lombardoni of Fonda-Fultonville (sixth), Logan Thayne of Hoosick Falls (eighth), Anna Lee of Johnstown (12th) and Mikyla Mitchell of Mekeel (14th).
The Class C all-state group includes Alexis Wright of Berne-Knox-Westerlo (third), Natasha Strock of Maple Hill (fourth), Maddie Meyer of Duanesburg (fifth), Fiona Mooney of Cambridge (fifth), Abigail Ranous of Warrensburg (ninth), Sami Dickinson of Hoosic Valley (10th), Allison O’Hanlon of Duanesburg (11th) and Taylor Meacham of Berne-Knox-Westerlo (11th).
The Class D all-state contingent includes Zoe Eggleston of Whitehall (fourth), Karlee Nims of Hartford (fifth), Hailey Condon of Fort Edward (seventh) and Shelby Caprood of Argyle (eighth).
