Welcome to our new open government blog
Welcome to The Daily Gazette's new Your Right to Know blog, which I hope we can use to help shine the light on government activity.
I hope we can make this an interactive forum. I'll share issues and ideas and updates on open government matters. And you can share your experiences seeking access to government information.
I invite you to ask questions about the open government laws, and I'll try to find you the answers. If you need help filing a Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request, I'll tell you how to proceed. If you're upset about a government board closing you out of a meeting, I'll look into it. If you want a document from the government and it won't turn it over to you, we'll work together on getting it.
Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis once said, "Sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants," which is why I chose a bright sun as the logo for this blog.
I hope you'll find this blog helpful and informative, and that you'll use it as a tool for exercising your right to know.
