Taj Mahal to relocate, Deanna's to close

After 11 years in the heart of downtown Schenectady, Deanna's Cafe & Catering is closing up shop at 142 Clinton St.

Deanna and Frank Iadicicco, owners of the casual breakfast and lunch spot, are in negotiations to lease the space out to Mohammed and Shammi Waheed, the owners of the nearby Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant across from City Hall.

Deanna Iadicicco said their reason for closing is simple.

"It's just time," she said. "My husband has retired. We're going to relax a little."

She said the owners of Taj Mahal were looking for a new spot to house their restaurant — which serves authentic Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi food — after "problems with their building" at 118 Jay St.

When reached by phone Thursday, Mohammed Waheed declined to comment about their reason for wanting to relocate Taj Mahal, adding he would be able to talk more later this week.

The last day for Deanna's Cafe is Friday, Jan. 10. It is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The restaurant also provides home-style catering.
