Albany is home to great hospitals
Albany has two of the state's best hospitals, according to U.S. News & World Report.
St. Peter's Hospital and Albany Medical Center were ranked among the top 20 best hospitals in New York in this year's U.S. News Best Hospitals list.
St. Peter's was ranked the No. 16 best hospital in the state. The 487-bed hospital was listed as high-performing in 11 adult specialties, including cancer, geriatrics, gynecology, nephrology, orthopedics, pulmonology, urology and more. In a year's worth of surveys, 71 percent of patients said they would definitely recommend St. Peter's to friends and family.
Albany Medical Center was ranked the No. 17 best hospital in the state and listed as high-performing in 10 adult specialties, including cancer, geriatrics, nephrology, pulmonology and urology, among others. The 644-bed hospital just unveiled a brand new 325,000-square-foot Patient Pavilion with spacious private rooms, state-of-the-art operating suites and family spaces. Sixty-seven percent of patients said they would definitely recommend Albany Med to friends and family.
U.S. News rankings cover nearly 5,000 medical centers across the country and span 16 medical specialties, from cancer to neurology and neurosurgery. The rankings are based mostly on objective hospital performance data, such as patient survival rates, and structural resources, such as nurse staffing levels.
New York has 13 hospitals that are nationally ranked. Thirty-three other hospitals met standards for strong performance within the state.
