Taco Del Mar opens on Central State Street

Schenectady is now home to its very own Taco Del Mar — a fast food Mexican restaurant known for its large, hand-rolled burritos and fish tacos.

The restaurant recently opened in the city's Central State neighborhood at 1478 State St. between Edward and Spruce streets next to a recently reopened Subway. Franchise co-owners Mitch and Adam Gelman own several Subways in the area, and last year opened the state's very first Taco Del Mar in Albany.

The news was first announced at a ribbon cutting hosted by the Chamber of Schenectady County to celebrate Subway's relocation and expansion.

Taco Del Mar first opened in on Seattle's waterfront in 1992 with a name and logo designed to invoke its founders' college surfer days in California. Its menu features fish tacos found near the Mexican-California border and Mission-style burritos found in San Francisco. Other offerings include nachos, quesadillas, enchiladas and an array of salsas.

The only other Taco Del Mar in the state is located in Rome, just north of Utica.

Schenectady's location will be run by general manager Chuck Mueller.
