Tech Valley patent boom
Patents issued in the third quarter for the Capital Region's Tech Valley amounted to the largest number in almost two years.
Hoffman Warnick LLC, an intellectual property law firm , has released the 2012 Third Quarter Tech Valley Patent Indices, which showed good numbers in the three-month period that culminated at the end of September. This quarter was also the second-in-a-row quarterly high for the national number of patents issued.
"The USPTO continues to work on the backlog of patent applications. Tech Valley and the Capital Region numbers are also going up with the national numbers, so that's very good news" said Spencer Warnick, partner at Hoffman Warnick, in a statement.
In the third quarter there were almost 72,000 patents issued across the country. In the Tech Valley region, which includes Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga and Rensselaer counties, there were 883 patents issued. About half of the region's patents came from General Electric and IBM.
A full breakdown on recent patents for the Tech Valley region are available below.
For the third quarter in 2011, the region generated about 807 patents and 62,447 were issued in the country.
