BC Saturday picks

By Mike MacAdam

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The only Breeders' Cup winner I picked on Friday, Stephanie's Kitten, paid $14.20 in the Juvenile Fillies Turf. No, I did not play her straight, and Stopshoppingmaria didn't back up enough to get out of the way of what would have been a sizeable exacta for me.

Didn't cash a ticket all day, but I didn't really bet an awful lot, either, saving it up for what should be a dynamite day today. The weather is gorgeous at Churchill Downs, and we're anticipating a fast main track.

Following are my BC Saturday picks. As wonderful as the story would be, I'm going to try to beat Goldikova and deny her four straight Mile wins. I believe fillies will be prominent, though (see: Midday, Havre de Grace).

Marathon: Baryshnikov
Juvenile Turf: Lucky Chappy
Sprint: Force Freeze
Turf Sprint: Perfect Officer
Dirt Mile: Wilburn
Turf: Midday
Juvenile: Hansen
Mile: Gio Ponti
Classic: Havre de Grace

Headed to the paddock for the 2:02 p.m. Juvenile Turf, where Mechanicville's Chad Brown has 20-1 Fantastic Song.
