"Fabulous Fathers" Announced!
Monday, May 12, 2008

The Daily Gazette’s latest reader participation contest, “My Fabulous Father,” will take over the newspaper’s “Life & Arts” section on Tuesday.

We’ll be printing 10 short pieces submitted by readers. A couple are funny, a few others are poignant, still others are kind of dramatic.
People will vote for one favorite, and either mail in a paper ballot or vote on an Internet ballot found at www.dailygazette.com.

I’ll be writing the stories about the three winners, and I’ll be counting votes that come into the Gazette from the U.S. Mail. The Internet votes will be totaled electronically.

For people who can’t wait to see the line-up, here’s a sneak peak! Our “Fabulous Father” writers and stories, in alphabetical order, are:

- Kathi Allen of Fonda, “The Nature Lover:” The woods were a second home for Valentine Waner.

- Joan Babcock of Schenectady, “Reading and Romans:” James Lundie taught his daughters with rhymes.

- Mary Clemens of Amsterdam, “Conviction:” Elmer Clemens took a stand for justice.

- Alden “Joe” Doolittle of Glenville, “Pop’s Whisper:” Alden Doolittle offers a late-night invitation to watch the sky.

- Lynne Petroski Fuchs of Glenville, “The Parakeet Paradox:” Carl Petroski solves a pet crisis.

- Sue Kovarovic Hartman of Ballston Lake, “The December Day:” Frank Kovarovic and daughter enjoy winter snow.

- Sara Huzar of Niskayuna, “Honeymoon at Midnight:” Allen Huzar treats his daughter to late snacks and TV.

- Jean Parker Katz of Schenectady, “Mr. Parker’s Pencils:” Dana Parker entertains in creative fashions.

- Candy Lent of Scotia, “The Babe at the Bar:” Gaston Corbett starts a family in a unique way.

- Tony Sumigray of Amsterdam, “Remembering Pa:” Al Sumigray talks his son into a big race.

There they are. You can read the full stories in Tuesday’s edition of The Daily Gazette, or online at www.dailygazette.com. There are some nice pieces here — and we want to know your favorite.
So vote!

Thanks to all 57 people who sent in their fabulous stories about Dad.
