Limeade and lemonade have always been my favorite summer diversions.
Lately, I’ve been going for the softer stuff — seems like nothing hits the spot during a summer heat spell more than a thick, frosty milk shake.
I’ve cruised through McDonalds’ drive-thrus twice in the past week for tall chocolate numbers. I’m too impatient for straws — I just guzzle and gulp the damn things.
I know the fast-food guys offer the basics — vanilla and strawberry complete the familiar shake trio — but I’m thinking about inventing my own.
My blender at home is about to blow up, but I think it will last long enough to pulverize 10 scoops of vanilla ice cream, a pint of blueberries, a jigger or two of skimmed milk and maybe a dash of almond extract.
It will probably contain about 10,000 calories, but I can’t think of a quicker way to sock all those blueberries into my system.
Might try strawberries next. And then raspberries. Maybe even blackberries.
By the end of the summer, I’m either going to have terrific health ... or a terrific waistline.

Sounds delicious ... and if you use frozen yogurt or low-fat ice cream, maybe even somewhat healthful.
