Golf pros on the move
Monday, April 5, 2010

There was more shuffling of area golf pros over the weekend.

I knew Van Patten was looking for a new head pro, and that a decision was gong to be made soon. Course owners chose Mike Behan, the former head pro at Olde Kinderhook, a private club near Hudson. Behan took over his new duties today.

Meanwhile, the Northeastern New York PGA informed me that Battenkill head pro Phil Kaminski, the former assistant pro at Mohawk Golf Club, had been named the new head pro at Olde Kinderhook, leaving Battenkill without a head pro.

Since the 2009 season ended, head professionals have jumped around. Craig McLean replaced longtime head pro Rick Wright at The Edison Club, while Wright moved over to become the first head pro at Fairways of Halfmoon.

Kevin Canale, the former general manager at Rolling Hills at Antlers, is the new head pro at Pioneer Hills. Schenectady native Paul Jaycox, the former head pro and owner at Kingsboro Golf Club in Kingsboro, is now the head pro at Cobleskill Golf & Country Club. John Neet, former head pro at both Stadium and Eagle Crest, is now working at Golf Galaxy, while Tom Oppedisano, who previously worked at Orchard Creek and Golf Galaxy, is the new head pro at McGregor Links Country Club.

Although many of these positions were decided early in the offseason, several of the job changes weren't announced until this week, which is cutting things pretty thin, considering we're already into the season with all this great nice weather.

Good luck to all the guys with their new jobs.
