Get an early look at the Great Danes
Thursday, October 22, 2009

You definitely will need a program to keep track of this season's University at Albany men's basketball team.

There are plenty of new faces, and you can get a sneak preview of all the rookies when the annual Purple & Gold scrimmage is held Saturday at 4 p.m. at SEFCU Arena. Admission is free.

There are currently 17 players on the UAlbany roster, and most of them are new. Leading scorer Tim Ambrose, a junior, and senior Will Harris, who transferred from the University of Virginia last season, are the key returners, along with point guard Michael Johnson and 6-11 center Brett Gifford, but the new guys could get plenty of playing time.

The festivities will include a performance by UAlbany's dance team and cheerleaders, as well as music provided by DJ Don Juan. At halftime, there will be a half-court shot contest for $500, the Northwoods Inn drawing for a ski package, and performances by two campus dance groups.

The Danes open the regular season Nov. 9 at Syracuse as part of the 2K Sports Classic, benefitting Coaches vs. Cancer. That opener will be televised on ESPNU at 9 p.m.

The Danes then host Robert Morris, Detroit and Alcorn State in the 2K Sports Classic sub-regional Nov. 20-22 at SEFCU Arena.

UAlbany season tickets are on sale and can be ordered through the UAlbany ticket office at 442-4683.
