Yankee fans can rejoice, at least for another day, following CC Sabathia's brilliant performance tonight against the Angels.
CC started on just three days rest, and except for one inning, when he seemed to struggle and gave up the only run of the night, he had the Angels under control. What a game.
It helped that the Yankees' big bats were on fire once again. ARod is a monster of late with the long ball, and he's getting plenty of help throughout the lineup. No more talk about him choking in the clutch.
Up 3-1, the Yankees would love to close out the Angels quickly, but it won't be easy. The Yanks will need another strong pitching performance and more timely hitting.
And I hate to be picky, but they also need some heads-up base running. That's one department that they've been careless in all season, although the umpires appear to have made some poor calls along the way (see Swisher being called out for leaving too soon from third).
I'm hoping the Yankees won't test my nerves and will instead get the job done quickly. It would be fantastic to get back to the World Series, and perhaps battle my good buddy Ken Schott, who is a huge Phillies' fan. But neither series is over yet.
I'm hoping this is a team of destiny. The signs are there, but you've got to win these games on the field, not in your fantasies.
Go Yankees.
