The Edison Club had 62 resumes to choose from when picking its new head pro, and they decided to go with an experienced guy with local connections.
Craig McLean, a former assistant pro at Mohawk Golf Club, was named the new head pro after 20 years as head pro at the Dorset Field Club in Dorset, Vt. McLean is the former president of the New England PGA, as well as the Vermont chapter of the PGA. He has family roots in the Capital Region.
Among the pros considered were former Mohawk Golf Club head pro Rick Wolcott and former PGA Professional Championship winner Ron Philo Jr., the brother of LPGA Tour member Laura Diaz.
McLean replaces longtime head pro Rick Wright, whose contract was not renewed. Wright was a two-time president of the Northeastern New York PGA as well as a district director.
I wish McLean luck, and I'm sure he'll a great job. The search committee, which included chairman Jim Wood and Mark Cusano, among others, took its time and sifted through some great names before they chose McLean. I remember him when he was at Mohawk two decades ago, and he'll be a great addition to the local section.
