During Saturday's unveiling of the new home for the Capital District Basketball Hall of Fame plaques at the Times Union Center, it was announced that Shenendehowa girls' basketball coach Ken Strube will be among the new inductees for 2010.
Strube, who has helped Shen become one of the most dominant girls' basketball programs in Section II, deserves the honor. He's also one of the people who spreads the word on who the best girls in the area are.
The rest of the inductees will be announced next season, and the annual Hall of Fame dinner will be held next June.
Hall of Fame director Rene LeRoux said that he plans to have about 16 girls' basketball players inducted this time, as well as a few more boys. There will be some more coaches, too. Eventually, more college players will be inducted, as well, meaning we'll see Siena and UAlbany players like Marc Brown, Doremus Bennerman, Kenny Hasbrouck and Jamar Wilson.
The unveiling ceremony was well attended. Doc Sauers was honored as the latest inductee. It was also great to see guys like Barry Kramer, Joe Loudis, Phil Schoff, Sonny Gooden, Gary Holle, Jim Tedisco, Bob Weaver, Jon Mueller and so many others.
The success and interest in the Hall of Fame just goes to show you what a great basketball area the Capital Region is. You would think that after having 50 players inducted in the first season, there wouldn't be that many left to join, but this area has so many great players and coaches that you could put 10-15 inductees in every season for the next decade or so and still have plenty left.
I can't wait to here who the next inductees will be.
