More lineup changes
Tuesday, May 6, 2008

It's a good thing this is golf and not baseball. This much lineup juggling could ruin anyone's scorecard.

The pros from the Northeastern New York PGA continued to juggle their lineup for Wednesday's sixth annual Gazette Cup at Albany Country Club. Replacing Paul Jaycox of Onteora Golf Club will be Taconic Golf Club head pro Rick Pohle, another senior club pro who has won player of the year honors several times. Tom Sullivan of Wyantenuck Country Club already replaced Bob Mucha of Greenock Country Club for the pros.

The amateur team also made a lineup change, as honorary captain Joe Quillinan of the Country Club of Troy will become a playing captain, replacing fellow club member Matt Clarke.

The first match begins at 10 a.m. Individual and partners match play formats will be used. The public is invited free of charge, but make sure you wear golf attire. No jeans will be allowed.

Top pros include 2007 player of the year Peter Gerard of Mill Road Acres and former match play champions Jeremy Kerr, a Schenectady native who is the head pro at Oneonta Country Club, and Canajoharie CC head pro Ian Breen.

Leading amateurs include two-time point champion Dan Russo of Rolling Hills at Antlers CC, former New York State Mid-Amateur champion John Vaccaro of Wolferts Roost CC and left-hander Jon-Michael Socaris from Capital Hills at Albany.

The pros lead the series, 3-2. They need 27 points to retain the Gazette Cup. The amateurs need 27.5 points to take the Gazette Cup away from the pros.
