I've spent better than 60 percent of my life covering sports that use some kind of ball.
Bowling balls, golf balls, footballs, basketballs, baseballs and even lacrosse balls. I never get tired of it, and I know I'm not alone. The great thing about being a sportswriter is that I work in a world that is a hobby for many others. I know I'm fortunate.
It's just about time to put away the bowling balls, and the spring college sports are starting to wind down in the next few weeks, but I"m only just getting started following one of my great passions, golf.
The Capital Region has more than its share of top golfers, and watching them compete makes me envious of their skill. Wednesday's Gazette Cup, which pits area club professionals against the region's top amateurs, is one of my most enjoyable days of the year. I urge any golf fans with some time on their hands to come out and watch some great competition. It all starts at 10 a.m. at Albany Country Club. Admission is free.
I'll keep you up to date on all the local golf news, but I won't forget the local spring sports as they begin to close down for the season. I'll also keep you informed on the local bowling scene.
You'll see me at Saratoga Race Course in July and August. I'll be at the Times Union Center covering Albany Conquest games, and for the first time, I keep you up to date on the New York Giants summer camp at the University of Albany.
A ball for all seasons. The fun never stops.
