The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now is joining with local activists, churches and other residents to get everyone who wants to vote Tuesday out to the polls.
From 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, organizer Chris Franklin and other ACORN members will be standing on call to provide transportation to people without cars, particularly seniors who often get left behind during election day.
“People can start calling in for rides at 518-522-2127 after 10 a.m.," Franklin said in a news release, "and if I have too many people lined up, I'll pass it along to other volunteers who will be ready to go.”
ACORN is a grass-roots group that claims more than 80,000 members in New York state and more than 500,000 member families nationwide comprising low- and moderate-income community members fighting for positive change in low-income areas. It gained national attention during the presidential campaign because of accusations that its voter registration drives resulted in a high number of fraudulent registrations.
ACORN, alongside other local activists, registered more 50 voters at an Oct. 4 event in Jerry Burrell Park and more than 1.3 million people nationally over the past year.

I'm still waiting for an explanation of the proposed amendment to the State Constitution that will be at the head of the ballot tomorrow in either the print or on-line edition of the Gazette. Perhaps you're expecting the ACORN volunteers to provide it to voters on their way to the election sites?
