Fight crowd cheered mismatches

It was an interesting boxing card in Albany on Saturday night, interesting not only for the fights, which ran from poor to excellent, but for the reactions of the crowd, which ranged from enthusiastic for the poor fights to disgusted for the one excellent fight.

The one excellent fight was in the bantamweight division between Yan Barthelemy, a former Olympic gold medalist from Cuba, and Sahib Usarov, an undefeated titleholder from Tajikstan by way of Russia. Both highly skilled boxers were able to counter and defend against each other's best efforts. The crowd showed that it prefers brawling mismatches, which they got a couple of in the preliminaries, with the overmatched contestant getting knocked silly. Cheers for one kind of spectacle, boos for the other.

I took a few photos of the activities, which you can view by clicking HERE.
