Touring Schoharie (with photos)

I popped around to the village of Schoharie the other day to see how it’s recovering from the flood and was dismayed to see the extent of the damage, most of which is in the interior of buildings, which were soaked to the waist with foul muddy water.

My guide was Bill Cherry, county treasurer, and part of what I saw was the remains of his own office and of his own home, which, like the county office building, is in the heart of downtown.

Since the village is not officially in a floodplain, most of the residents did not have flood insurance and are now on their own, hoping for help from FEMA. To see photos that I took, please click HERE. To read more, please see my column in Thursday’s paper.
