I hied myself over to Amsterdam yesterday (Mon., Sept. 27, 2010) for an open house at what used to be St. Casimir’s Church and is now the Five Buddhas Temple to try to get a handle on the changes that have taken place. While there, I took a few photos, which you can see by clicking HERE.

I was pleased to find that despite recent vandalism at the temple, residents who turned out for the open house were warm and welcoming to the Chinese newcomers, who are already making an impact on the city by buying abandoned properties and promising to make large investments in them.

Interesting, but the figures and examples he uses don't really support his point. For instance, considering that "only 59 percent of respondents could name the vice president of the United States," I'm impressed at the worldliness shown by the other figures, such as:

47 percent of people questioned knew that the Dalai Lama is a Buddhist;
62 percent knew that most Indians are Hindus; and
52 percent knew that Ramadan is the Islamic holy month.
