James Tedisco (R-Glenville) has received the backing of Freda Solomon, wife of the late U.S. Congressman Gerald “Jerry” Solomon, who represented the area in Congress for two decades.
Solomon, a decorated veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, was an advocate for veterans and active duty servicemen and women. He was the author of the Solomon Amendment, which denied federal funding to institutions of higher learning if they prohibit or prevent ROTC or military recruitment on campus.
The Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery in Saratoga for deceased veterans was named in his honor.
“This endorsement is quite an honor. I am so humbled and grateful to have the support of Freda Solomon, who is such a wonderful and caring person and a great ambassador for everything her husband fought for. Jerry Solomon was a true patriot and a beloved icon for not only the 20th Congressional District but also for our entire nation.
“I pledge to do my best as a member of Congress to work hard every day for my constituents and make Jerry proud,” Tedisco said.
“As congressman, my husband, Jerry Solomon, was a fierce and passionate advocate for veterans and our brave and dedicated military men and women,” said Freda Solomon.
“In Jim Tedisco, I see someone who truly understands the needs of our military, veterans and working families. Jim will do an outstanding job of carrying on my late husband’s legacy of service and I am proud to support his candidacy for Congress in the 20th Congressional District.”
