School baseball: Schenectady on hold
Schenectady’s Section II Class AA quarterfinal baseball game with Niskayuna at the Central Park ‘C’ diamond was rained out Thursday.
It has been rescheduled for Friday, but at what time and where was in question as of Thursday evening.
“It depends on the when the field gets ready. We’re looking at a 1 or 4 start,” said Schenectady coach John Isabella. “The city is on our side, but they’ve lost a lot of man power in the last few years, and we’re not sure when they will be available to get it ready.”
Isabella said the teams could play at Niskayuna if city workers cannot get the ‘C’ diamond in proper playing shape.
“Anything is possible,” he said. “The by-laws say if the home team can’t get their field ready, you can play at the visiting team to get it in. We would still be the home team.”
Schenectady (12-4, 13-6) is the No. 4 Class AA seed, and Niskayuna (10-6, 11-6) is No. 5. The teams last met in the sectionals in 2012 and the Silver Warriors won a first-round game, 6-0.
“We were both revved up to play,” said Isabella. “Niskayuna was all business when they got here.”
A handful of the quarterfinals scheduled for Thursday were pushed to Friday. The sectional semifinals are slated for Saturday at Joe Bruno Stadium (Class AA), St. Rose (Class A), Bleecker Stadium (Class BB), Veteran’s Park in Saratoga Springs (Class B), Shuttleworth Park in Amsterdam (Class C) and East Field in Glens Falls (Class D).
