School baseball: More no-hitters

Marty Margiasso of Cairo-Durham pitched a perfect game for one of Tuesday’s mound gems, and Nick Chiseri of Voorheesville nearly matched Margiasso Thursday as the 2014 Section II no-hitter list grew.

Margiasso authord his perfect game in a 15-0 Patroon Conference win over Greenville, recording four strikeouts.

It was the second perfecto in the Patroon this season, and the second against Greenville. Nick Kimmel spun that one on April 9 when Catskill blanked the Spartans, 25-0.

Tuesday’s other no-hitter belonged to St. Bonaventure-bound Colonie ace Ben Contento, who shut down Bethlehem in a 4-0 Suburban Council victory. Contento fanned eight and walked a pair.

Chiseri topped Voorheesville with his no-hitter, 4-0, in a Colonial Council contest. Chiseri, who struck out 12, lost his perfect bid in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out, outfield error.

Here’s a look at the 2014 no-hit list. If I’m missing one, let me know.

April 24: Kyle Bailey, Saratoga Catholic, 20-0, five-inning win vs. Middleburgh (Bailey’s first varsity start).

April 28: Andrew Clements, Troy, 14-0 win vs. Bishop Gibbons (17 strikeouts, perfect game. Troy’s Christian Maldonado threw a perfecto against Gibbons last season).
