Girls hoop: Tamarac out in state semis
Utica Notre Dame raced to a big halftime lead and fended off Tamarac for a 69-55 state Class B semifinal win Friday at Hudson Valley Community College.
Iowa State-bound Emily Durr poured in 32 points for Notre Dame (Section III, 21-3), including 18 in a put-away fourth quarter, and Jackie Hajec scored 14 of her 16 in the first half when the Jugglers opened up a 35-24 advantage.
Durr has 2,360 points and is eight away from breaking the all-time Section III record held by Breanna Stewart (Cicerno-North Syracuse/UConn).
Adiya Henderson led Tamarac (22-2) with 23 points, 21 coming in the second half after the 6-foot senior standout was hindered by early foul trouble. Jenna Erickson added nine points for Tamarac, a first-time state final four participant.
Durr was 7-for-11 from three-point range, and sank five threes in the final quarter. Her last three gave Notre Dame its largest lead at 66-42.
Section II representatives Hoosic Valley (Class C) and Fort Edward (Class D) will see action Saturday at HVCC.
