Boys hoop: Patriots end skid
After losing 17 straight basketball games to Christian Brothers Academy, Schenectady ended its drought with a 63-58 Big 10 win Tuesday night (Jan. 14) at the Pat Riley Sports Center.
Young Schenectady players delivered, with eighth-grader Tobias Holmes scoring 20 points, sophomore Neftali Ling netting 16 points, and 10th-grader Brandon Langston adding 10 assists.
Schenectady trailed entering the final quarter, 46-43.
Schenectady’s last win against CBA came early in the 2005-06 season, 56-51. Schenectady lost to CBA twice that season to begin its streak of futility, 67-61 in a league game, and again, 72-43, in a special playoff for the Big 10 championship.
CBA beat Schenectady at home early this season, 73-52, in a game that got out of hand in the first half.
Schenectady was leading CBA late in the fourth quarter in a game last year at the Riley Center, but Nick Marini’s steal and layup gave the Brothers a dramatic 47-46 victory.
