Boys hoop: Sectional notes
Saratoga Central Catholic and Hoosic Valley both put up a season-high 95 points in Class C opening-round wins Wednesday.
The Saints’ 95-59 win against Hadley-Luzerne included a 35-point third quarter. Evan Pescetti generated 17 of his season-high 25 points in the quarter, and he was one of 10 Saints to score. “We were hitting everything,” said Saints coach Ken Mantia.
Ten players also scored for Hoosic Valley in its 95-44 win against Whitehall. John Rooney had 28 points for his 19th double-digit effort. “I don’t think we’ve ever scored that many points in a sectional game,” said Indians coach Dan Calhoun.
The Indians (No. 1, 16-3) and Saints (No. 3, 16-3) had reserves on the court before the third quarter was through. . . .
Hudson (No. 14, 11-9) notched a Class B first-round upset Tuesday when Gerell Young’s three-pointer at the buzzer ousted Cohoes (No. 3, 16-3) from the tourney, 58-57. Cohoes, the Colonial Council Patriot Division champ and No. 12-ranked team in the state, had beaten Hudson in December, 72-39, and led early in the rematch, 20-7.
