Boys hoop: Balanced 'Birds win
Voorheesville displayed great balance in its 64-53 Section II Class B quarterfinal win over Catskill Friday night, with Dylan Hensel, Isaiah Meaux and Shane Perry netting 13 points apiece, and Noah Crawford and Logan Hotaling adding 11 points apiece.
The Blackbirds (No. 1 seed, 19-1) won their 18th consecutive game, which included a key 17-9 second-quarter run. James Miller scored 21 points for the Cats (No. 8, 15-5).
Voorheesville’s only loss came at Watervliet, 77-63.
Mechanicville (No. 5, 16-4) beat Mekeel Christian Academy (No. 4, 18-2) in the first Class B quarterfinal at Hudson Valley Community Collehe, 75-62, behind Logan Polsinello’s 30 points. The Red Raiders have won five in a row.
Voorheesville and Mechanicville play Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Glens Falls Civic Center in a rematch from a Jan. 3 Colonial Council game won by the Blakbirds on their court, 59-57. Crawford and Hensel scored 21 points apiece in that contest, and Hensel knocked down seven three-point baskets. Polsinello led the Red Raiders that evening with 15 points.
Tuesday’s first Class B semifinal at 6:30 will pit Broadalbon-Perth (No. 6, 15-5) against Hoosick Falls (No. 2, 19-1).
