Boys lacrosse: Quinn gives SU verbal

Niskayuna High School freshman Lucas Quinn has made a verbal commitment to play lacrosse at Syracuse University.

Quinn competed for Niskayuna’s junior varsity team as an eighth-grader. The midfielder also considered North Carolina, Ohio State, Delaware and Penn State.

Niskayuna seniors Reed Avveduti (Sacred Heart), Mike D’Amario (Virginia) and Ryan Lawson (Quinnipiac) signed letters of intent in November to play Division I lacrosse. D’Amario was selected a US Lacrosse All-American in 2013 after piling up 72 goals and 44 assists.

Niskayuna underclass players Aidan O’Brien (junior, North Carolina), John Prendergast (junior, Duke) and Dylan Pantalone (sophomore, Siena) previously gave verbal commitments.

Niskayuna reached the state Class B semifinals last season and went 21-1 under head coach Mike Vorgang.

Morgan Burchardt, a four-year starter for the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake soccer team, will sign with 2012 Division II national champion The College of Saint Rose Thursday.

Burchardt was three times named to the all-state first team and concluded her career with 59 goals and 73 assists. ...

Saratoga Springs will have a signing ceremony Thursday featuring Kelsey Briddell (field hockey, UAlbany), Zoie Cavotta (lacrosse, St. Anselm), Sarah Morin (track/field, Mansfield University), Jay Navin (track/field, Northeastern) and Joseph Verro (track/field, New Hampshire).
