Boys lacrosse: Niskayuna in tough road game
Niskayuna travels to Connecticut powerhouse Darien Saturday for a non-league boys’ lacrosse game.
Niskayuna is 4-0 and has outscored four Suburban Council opponents, 68-19. Darien opened its season Wednesday with a 22-0 victory over Trinity Catholic when 13 different players scored goals for the Blue Wave.
Darien won nine Connecticut state titles from 1997 through 2012, including six in a row from 2005-10. Darien has been to 25 consecutive state final fours, and sports a 484-129 record since 1984.
Niskayuna went 21-1 last season, losing only to Garden City on a late fourth-quarter goal, 10-9, in the state Class B semifinals.
Niskayuna won Section II titles in eight of the last nine years, and finished second in the state tournament in 2005 (Class A) and 2009 (Class B).
Niskayuna beat Darien last year, 14-9. Darien beat Niskayuna in 2011, 8-4, and in 2010, 9-2.
