School cross country: SC championships Saturday

The Suburban Council cross country championships will take place on Saturday at Saratoga State Park, with the varsity girls running at 3:10 and the varsity boys going at 3:40.

The girls’ state ranked teams are Saratoga Springs (No. 2 Class A), Shenendehowa (No. 6 Class A), Guilderland (No. 9 Class A), Colonie (No. 10 Class A), Bethlehem (No. 18 Class A), Shaker (No. 23 Class A) and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (No. 2 Class B).

Saratoga Springs is the defending team champion, beating out Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake for the top spot in 2012.

Top individuals to keep tabs on are Maryanna Lansing (Shaker), Emily Burns (Guilderland), Sarah Morin (Saratoga Springs), Cara Sherman (Mohonasen), Amanda Chambers (Colonie), Jordan Casey (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), Bellame Bower (Colonie), Audrey Martino (Shaker), Julia Champagne (Bethlehem) and Spencer Hayes (Saratoga Springs).

Lansing placed third last year and recently posted victories at the Albany County Meet and at the Grout Run.

The boys’ state ranked teams are Saratoga Springs (No. 6 Class A), Colonie (No. 9 Class A), Shaker (No. 17 Class A), Bethlehem (No. 18 Class A) and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (No. 5 Class B).

Saratoga Springs won the team title last fall, with Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake second.

Top individuals to watch are Steve Booker (Bethlehem), Kyle Gronostaj (Columbia), Aiden Tooker (Saratoga Springs), Jay Navin (Saratoga Springs), Conor McDonough (Niskayuna), Jake Johnson (Colonie), Jordan Johnson (Colonie), Jared Short (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), Noah Carey (Guilderland) and Paul Nichols (Shaker).

Booker placed third last year and and is looking to add to his 2013 resume which shows wins at the Albany County Meet, the Grout Run and the Springstead Invitational.

The freshman races are at 1:30 (girls) and 1:50 (boys). The junior varsity races are at 2:10 (girls) and 2:40 (boys).
