School football: State rankings
Christian Brothers Academy cracked the state football top-25 this week after dealing Guilderland its first loss.
The Brothers (5-1) moved from the honorable mention list to No. 18 in Class AA on the poll put out by the New York State Sportswriters Association. CBA beat Guilderland, 40-6, for its fourth consecutive victory.
Hoosick Falls (6-0) remained at No. 1 in Class C, Queensbury (6-0) stayed at No. 3 in Class A while Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (5-1) climbed to No. 6, and Schalmont (6-0) remained at No. 5 in Class B.
Section II’s other top-25 teams are Chatham (6-0, No. 7) and Fonda-Fultonville (5-1, No. 17) in Class C, and Cambridge (6-0, No. 5, Greenwich (5-1, No. 7) and Rensselaer (5-1, No. 10) in Class D.
Section II’s honorable mention teams are Colonie (4-2), Guilderland (5-1), Saratoga Springs (5-1), Shaker (5-1), Shenendehowa (4-2) and LaSalle (4-2) in Class AA; Averill Park (4-2), Gloversville (4-2) and Troy (4-2) in Class A; Broadalbin-Perth (5-1), Cohoes (4-2), Green Tech (4-2) and Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk (4-2) in Class B); Corinth (5-1) and Mechanicville (4-2) in Class C; and Canajoharie (5-1) in Class D.
The other No. 1-ranked teams are Aquinas (Section V, 6-0) in Class AA, Sweet Home (Section VI, 6-0) in Class A, Maine-Endwell (Section IV, 6-0) in Class B, and Randolph (Section VI, 6-0) in Class D. Maine-Endwell owns the state longest win streak at 31 games, while Hoosick Falls is second with 19 in a row.
Fort Plain will play at the state’s No. 17-ranked Class D team in Ticonderoga (Section VII, 5-1) Friday night at 7:30. Catholic Central forfeited its game with Fonda-Fultonville due to player injuries and illness. Ticonderoga was originally scheduled to play Plattsburgh, but Plattsburgh ended its season two weeks ago due to a shortage of players.
