School football: Queensbury No. 1
Queensbury will head into its Class A regional football game Saturday night against Massena with a No. 1 state ranking.
Queensbury (10-0) was No. 2 when it defeated Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake for the Section II championship last Saturday, 14-7. Sweet Home was No. 1 when it lost to Williamsville North in last Friday’s Section VI title game, 21-12.
The new Class A rankings put out by the New York State Sportswriters Association have Queensbury followed by No. 2 Carey (9-0), No. 3 Cornwall (9-1), No. 4 Lawrence (8-1), No. 5 Sweet Home (9-1) and No. 6 Burnt Hills (8-2). Burnt Hills was No. 5 before its loss to Queensbury
Sweet Home had won 69 straight games against Section VI teams before its setback.
Burnt Hills beat Sweet Home for the 2012 state Class A championship.
In Class AA, Christian Brothers Academy (9-1) moved up from No. 14 to No. 12. Shaker (8-2) is No. 20.
In Class B, Schalmont (10-0) jumped from No. 5 to No. 4. Broadalbin-Perth (8-2) is No. 17.
In Class C, Hoosick Falls (10-0) remained at No. 1. Chatham (9-1) is No. 7, and Fonda-Fultonville (7-2) is No. 17.
In Class D, it’s Cambridge (10-0) at No. 4, one spot better than last week. Rensselaer (8-1) is No. 8, and Greenwich (7-2) is No. 12.
