School basketball: Guzielek coaching Sir Bills
Matt Guzielek is coaching the varsity boys’ basketball team at Johnstown, where he set records as a high-scoring senior.
Guzielek previously directed modified, freshman and junior varsity teams at Johnstown and has taken over for Scott Hale, who stepped aside to accept an administrative position in the school district.
The Sir Bills went 1-13 in the Foothills Council last season and 2-16 overall.
Guzielek’s grandfather, Francis “Fred” Guzielek, coached the Johnstown varsity from 1962-65.
Guzielek tied a Johnstown record with 41 points when the Sir Bills upset Lansingburgh in the 2002 Section II tournament. He set a school record with eight three-point baskets earlier in his senior season against Broadalbin-Perth, and averaged 20.9 points. He later played at Hartwick College.

Former Bethlehem High School standout Matt Quatraro has accepted the position of assistant hitting coach for the Cleveland Indians.
Quatraro competed at Old Dominion University and was in the Tampa Bay Rays organization as a minor league player, instructor and manager through the 2013 season.
