School Notes: DiVietro nets six goals

Matt DiVietro took advantage of his extended playing time in Niskayuna’s Class B regional lacrosse win over Cornwall Saturday.

The reserve senior attackman scored a career-high six goals in the Silver Warriors’ 23-1 victory at the University at Albany’s John Fallon Field.

“It was nice to see him get a chance to show what he can do,” said Niskayuna coach Mike Vorgang. “He’s a good player. He’d play a lot at a lot of schools.”

DiVietro scored the last goal in the first two quarters to help Niskayuna build leads of 7-0 and 15-0. He notched all four of Niskayuna’s third-quarter goals as the lead grew to 19-1.

“Not only is he a good player, he’s a real good student and a great kid,” said Vorgang.

DiVietro entered the game with 10 goals, and had a pair of three-goal games in wins over Guilderland and Troy.

DiVietro played hockey for Niskayuna/Schenectady. He made the Capital District High School Hockey League’s all-star third team this past season.
