School volleyball: Schirmer Gatorade POY

Pittsford Sutherland outside hitter Luisa Schirmer has been named the Gatorade New York Player of the Year for girls’ volleyball.

Schirmer led Pittsford Sutherland to the state Class A championship with a three-set win over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake last month at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

That victory left Pittsford Sutherland 40-2 counting all competitions including regular season tournament pool play and state tournament pool play.

Schirmer piled up 508 kills, 114 aces, 465 digs and 33 blocks in all competitions. The 6-foot-2 Ohio State-bound standout was tabbed the Section V tournament and state tournament MVP, and was recently named an Under Armour first-team All-American.
